Keywords that convert (not just the ones that bring traffic)
Ranking by volume is fine; ranking by purchase intent is better. How to choose keywords that attract people who already want to buy.

Ranking first for a keyword with thousands of searches sounds great, until you see that nobody buys. The trick is not to chase volume, but intent.
The four types of intent
| Intent | Example |
|---|---|
| Informational | "how to clean trainers" |
| Navigational | "salomon chile" |
| Commercial | "best trail running shoes" |
| Transactional | "buy trail running shoes 42" |
The last two are gold for an eCommerce: that is where people are with their wallet in hand.
Build from the product
Start with what you sell and work down to the real search variants: brand, model, use, size, city. Those long, specific combinations tend to convert far better than a generic term.
Better to be first in a search that sells than tenth in one that only browses.
